A shoemaker once asked Martin Luther how he could serve God in his daily work. The shoemaker expected Luther to tell him to do something overtly “religious,” like leave his trade and become a monk or preacher. Instead, Luther replied:

“Make good shoes and sell them at a fair price.”

Luther’s point was simple, yet profound — Every vocation — not just ministry or church work — is a way to honor the Lord when performed faithfully and for the good of others.
